separate but equal means that people are equal with separate civil rights like black and white they were the same but separate rules an rights for each race in the southern american states.segregation is not separate but equal because blacks have no rights and are separate from whites but it’s not fair because blacks had old rusty stuff and some of them were slaves but whites have all of the fancy things like cars, and money. so the blacks have suffered so much

  4. It started on 1896 before and during the civil rights movement, African-Americans and whites where separated and thats what we people called Separate But Equal. Black and White where separated and they where suppose to have Equal rights but stuff got out off hand. After 14th Amendment Whites made rules and started fighting back so African-Americans can stay back where they were .It was a long fight but soon or later the world forgot that black people should have the same rights as the White people. I don’t believe that when things are separate they will ever be equal

This meant that the races were going to be separate. It happened after the end of slavery. I don’t ever think that when things are separate it can be equal.

I can’t really explain what separate but equal mean but i’ll try my best. And I’m going to tell you other stuff. States were permitted to segregate the races as long as they provided facilities for non-whites that were “equal” to those provided for whites. And there is so much more!!! During the civil rights movement, African-Americans and whites where separated by Jim Crow laws.

No separate but equal is not equal because black people did not have the same rights as white people.”Separate but equal is a set of laws. This was started in the United States after the Civil War until the famous Supreme Court case Brown vs Board of Education was the black people vs schools to go to the same school.

  10. Homer plessy went on a train to go somewhere but he sat in the white section in the car.
he shouted I am a black man in the white section and he refused to leave. the police came so plessy went to the court and the law put in separate but equal. Separate but equal is like segregation and that is wrong and illegal.

separate but equal is equal because blacks and whites have the same technology but not in the same school. it started when the civil war ended slavery was over and they was shipping old slaves over to new york to own there own land. whites were not with the way the blacks were living so blacks and whites had there own boundaries. when rosa parks did not want to go to the back and that would be equal because she wanted to stay in the back. she got arrested for not going to the back.
